How to receive files with a link or a 6-digit code

In short

To receive files, open the link the sender gave you, or go to shareurfiles.com/receive and type the 6-digit code. The download starts straight from the sender's device. You don't need an account or an app, and the files land in your downloads folder.

Step by step

  1. Open the link or the receive page

Click the link you got, scan the QR code, or go to shareurfiles.com/receive.

  2. Type the code if needed

Enter the 6 digits the sender gave you.

  3. Download

Confirm the download. Keep the page open until it says the download is complete.

Link or code: what's the difference?

Both lead to the same transfer. The link carries a secret key that lets your browser verify it is really talking to the sender's device: the “Pairing verified” note confirms it. The code is easier to read out loud or type, and the connection is still encrypted, just without that extra check.

What you may be asked

  • A password, if the sender protected the transfer (Pro and Max).
  • To sign in, if the sender restricted the transfer to specific email addresses (Max).
  • To wait a moment, if the sender approves each recipient by hand (Max) or uses the free plan at a busy time.

Where do the files go?

Files are saved to your browser's usual downloads folder. Several files arrive together in a single ZIP archive. Each file's fingerprint is checked, so what you get is identical to what was sent.

Questions on this topic

Do I need to create an account to receive?

No, unless the sender has limited the transfer to specific email addresses. In that case, you sign in with the address they invited.

The code doesn't work, why?

The transfer may have expired, been stopped by the sender, or reached its maximum number of recipients. Check the digits and ask the sender for a new code if needed.

Is it safe to download?

The connection is encrypted and the file is checked against the original's fingerprint. As with any file, only open files from people you trust.
