“No direct connection”
Some networks block direct connections between devices: strict corporate networks, some public hotspots, some mobile carriers. Switch one of the two devices to another network, for example from office Wi-Fi to a phone's hotspot, or from mobile data to home Wi-Fi, and try again.
A VPN or a strict firewall can also block the connection. Pausing it for the transfer often helps.
The transfer is slow
- The speed is the slower of the two connections. Upload speeds are often much lower than download speeds.
- The free plan is capped at 2 MB/s and each transfer starts after a short wait: usually 30 seconds to a minute, longer for very large files or at busy times. Basic goes up to 20 MB/s, Pro up to 60 MB/s and Max has no cap.
- Sending to several people at once shares your upload bandwidth between them.
- Wi-Fi far from the router is slow. A cable or a spot closer to the router helps.
The transfer stops or never starts
- The sender closed the tab, or the device went to sleep: keep it plugged in, awake, with ShareUrFiles open.
- On a phone, switching apps or locking the screen pauses the page. Stay on ShareUrFiles until the end.
- “Code not found”: check the digits. The transfer may have expired or been stopped.
- “Transfer full”: the link has reached its maximum number of recipients. Ask the sender for a new one.
The download fails at the end
Check the free space on the receiving device. For files of tens of gigabytes, use Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer, which can write huge files straight to disk. If a file's fingerprint doesn't match, it is discarded for safety: simply start the download again.
Questions on this topic
Why do I have to wait before the transfer starts?
The sender is on the free plan: each Free transfer starts after a short wait, usually 30 seconds to a minute, a little longer for very large files or at busy times. Paid plans start right away.
Does an interrupted download resume?
On Basic, Pro and Max, yes, from where it stopped. On Free, it has to restart.
Which browsers work best?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work. For very large files, Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer are the most reliable.
